Major de Spain is a rich, mean age man. He has a big, beautiful house for which some people envys him. He regards himself as a really important person who stands over other people. Maybe he` s a little bit cocky. He holds a kingly and beautiful chestnut mare.--Pibs 12:55, 17. Jan. 2007 (CET)

At the end of the book he probably killed Abner and his oldest son while they were on the way to burn his barn. This is not mentioned directly in the text but we can suppose this because Major the Spain shot three times. And I think that he didn't shoot in the air.

Nevertheless we don´t know if the two Snopes are dead. Maybe it´s simply an open end. Maybe the story continues with more and more barns which burn.--Noknok 17:17, 24. Jan. 2007 (CET)
