Barn Burning (Miss Lula)

Aus WikiSchool

Miss Lula lives and works as a housewife of Major de Spain. When Mr. Snopes enters into the house and walks with his dirty shoes over the expensive rug, she is called by a black servant. Immediately she comes from the kitchen through the hall, sees the dirt on the rug and shouts at Mr. Snopes, that he has to leave of the house at once. This shows, that she takes her job very grave and is very self confident.

For Sarty she's the essence of a lady - he had never seen a woman like her before (p.4, line 47) She is a part of the beauty he gets to see, when he walks with his father to the house from Mr. de Spain. She contributes to the feeling of peace and joy, Sarty's feeling - maybe the first time in his life - when he sees beautiful things for example the big house.

Well, Miss Lula doesn't play a leading part in the story, but she is very important for Sarthy's thouhts and feelings.
