Barn Burning (court)

Aus WikiSchool

The "court" is not really a court.
Because the scenery is set in a really small town in the beginning, there is no court and the lawsuit is held in a store.

[bearbeiten] Inner store

In the store, all the walls are filled with shelves full of cans. A smell of cheese lies in the air.
The room is really crowded and from the viewpoint of Sarty who is sitting on a barrel in a corner, you can't see the judge.
The judge is sitting at a table together with Mr. Snopes and Mr. Harris.

[bearbeiten] Topic of the first lawsuit

They argue about the case of Mr. Harris' burned barn. Mr. Snopes is accused, but there is no real evidence. So they want to question Sarty, but in the end, it doesn't come that far.

Because the Justice can't prove it yet, he can't condemn him but he gave Abner the advice to leave the country and never come back.

[bearbeiten] Topic of the second lawsuit

Now they argue about the case of Major the Spain's destroyed rug which Abner tried to clean. He destroyed the rug on purpose. As compensation the Mayjor claimed him to pay twenty bushles of corn. Abner didn't want to pay it but in the end he had to pay for the rug: ten bushles of corn instead of twenty.
