Barn Burning (mother)

Aus WikiSchool

Sarty's mother has four children, two daughters and two sons. She´s married with Abner Snopes.
She seems to be a helpful person and a loving mother but she also seems not to be assertive compared to her husband.
In opposition to Abner, she´s reasonable and polite. She would never do things like her husband.
She accepts their life conditions and tries to make the best of it. She is the typical housewife who cleans the house, washes the dishes and cooks for the family.
I think the children like her more than their father because she is more sensitive, sensible and caring for them than her husband. She knows that her husband thinks of her like she is subordinated to him, so she does almost always what he wants her to do, but in the end of the novel she's responsable that Sarty can escape. It seems that she let him go on purpose, she probably thinks that Sarty could do something to prevent his father doing wrong things again and she dislikes Abner burning barns but would never tell him right in his face. All in all she's not confident with the family's situation. The mother has a very big heart, but she has a big problem too. Abner, her husband, supresses her and she is afraid of him. She doesn´t want to help Sarty when he wants to escape to say Major de Spain that his father wants to burn his barn.--Noknok 16:39, 11. Jan. 2007 (CET)
