Cancer Cells

Aus WikiSchool

„Cancer Cells“ is the most impressive poem by Harold Pinter, particularly because Pinter wrote this poem against the background of his own throat cancer (Kehlkopfkrebs) in 2002. Pinter starts the poem with an quote by an nurse: “Cancer cells are those which have forgotten how to die”. He describes the “daily fight” against the tumor and the hope that only one of the two ones dies: the Human or the tumor. He underlines that he needs to see the Tumor, who “plans to murder” the human, “dead”. Another thing he accents is that the tumor “forgets to die” – not the person itself. The English newspaper “The Guardian” reported at February, 2nd 2002, that the 71year old Pinter is “back on stage despite cancer”. The heavy smoker Harold Pinter came down with throat cancer and cancer of the esophagus (Speiseröhre) and was undergoing an chemotherapy.
