[Bearbeiten] Plot
The plot of “Equus” Peter Shaffer gets from a friend, who told him that story which occurred some years ago on the outskirts of a small village in England. A 17-years old boy, who worked in a stable as a groom has blinded one night six horses with a metal spike. In Shaffer’s play Alan is the main character, acting out his memories, fears and dreams. The story starts with a request of Hester Salomon to the psychiatrist Martin Dysart to help a boy who committed a cruel crime and take him as a patient. Therefore nearly the whole play takes place in Dysart’s office. Investigating the family affairs, Dysart gets more and more in strange relations between Alan, his mum and his dad, conflicts, different points of view and adolescent conflicts.
Finally even Dysart gets in conflicts within himself, his job, his appeal and free will, and questions basic values of our society.
