[Bearbeiten] Plot
As Jill suggested, Alan and her went to the movie theater. Jill was the only girl in this theater. In one scene of the movie a sixteen-year old girl takes off her clothes completely in order to take a shower. A boy who likes her very much, whereas she ignores him, watches her secretly. Alan is excited and amazed since he has never seen a naked girl before. It fascinates him and the audience, too. He compares the men staring at the screen as if they are in a 'church' or belong to a 'congregation'. However, suddenly he’s noticing his father sitting in the same movie, and simultaneously Frank is recognizing his son. He yells his name, so that Alan feels embarrassed and tries to hide himself. His father continues yelling and finally he goes to Alan to make him leave the movie. The audience complains of the noises his father created.
[Bearbeiten] Interpretation
When Jill and Alan meet Frank at the cinema Frank is very upset. On the one hand he is angry because he does not want Alan watching TV. On the other hand it is embarrassing for him to be caught. Alan is confused and absolutely embarrassed by his Dad yelling after him. At that point he used Jill as a hideout. He touches her, maybe this is how the wall between them broke.
