This play was first presented by Royal Shakespeare Company at the Aldwych Theatre in London. Peter Hall was the director.

The story is about a couple that lives on a remote farmhouse, Kate and Deeley. They are visited by and old friend of Kate's whom they have not seen for 20 years. Together they talk about old times. As Keeley joins, tension builds up as they start the contest for Kate. Every one of them has memories that the others don't seem to know about. Memories turn into weapons. Both men fight for Kate.
