Graham Greene: „The Third Man“

Graham Greene wrote the novel „The Third Man“ in 1949; it was published one year later. The filmed version belongs to the genre "film noir", also like for example "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashiell Hammett.

The story sets in the postwar Vienna (Wien) where the American Western author Holly Martins searches his old friend Harry Lime who invited him. After he arrived in the Austrian city, Martins was informed that Lime was killed in a car accident.

Holly Martins finds out that his friend bootlegs Penicillin - perhaps a reason for the death. But he also researches that after the car accident, one man disappears from the crime scene - The Third Man.

The film version of "The Third Man" is favourite because of the constant zither-music which causes pressure.
